Our Commitment to Health and Safety

HITT’s safety culture goes beyond policies and procedures. We’re defining the new standard in safety to ensure everyone in our workplace can thrive.

Safety Beyond Standards

Safety is the first priority in every element of our work and is the measure of a successful project above all else.

Fostering a Culture of Care

Safety is so much more than just physical health. Our Culture of Care embraces mental wellbeing, psychological safety, and inclusive workplaces. We move beyond checklists to coach and motivate our people and trade partners to create work environments where every individual is cared for and in turn shows care for their teammates.

Setting New Standards

Construction is constantly evolving, and we embrace and invest in best-in-class training, innovative tools, and top-of-the-line equipment to keep our people and projects safe.

Implementing Safety Solutions

We use safety data to inform our decisions. HITT’s dedicated safety department identifies and analyzes emerging trends, defines the path to safety for the enterprise, and puts best practices to work on our jobsites nationwide.

Implementing our Safety Strategy

Centered around our Culture of Care, there are five elements that guide every aspect of our safety approach.

Empowerment
Accountability
Communication
Mindfulness
Training

Empowerment

Team members are trained to identify unsafe acts and risky behaviors. We empower every person on our jobsites to speak up and be a part of the safety solution.

Accountability

We practice ownership at every level and ensure each team member is personally responsible for embracing our safety approach and Culture of Care.

Communication

From hands-on training to sharing observations, our team members practice open communication, which creates a positive work environment and achieves our safety goals.

Mindfulness

More than a directive, we promote mindfulness in even the most common activities to avoid the complacency that may create risk.

Training

HITT’s advanced training programs and robust policies in practice ensure every person on our jobsites will go home safely at the end of the day.

When the HITT team raffled off new Red Wing safety boots, I was lucky enough to win a pair! HITT sets the standard by showing their subcontractors how appreciated they are for their hard work, not just by telling them. They know that the tradespeople in the field are just as important as the people in the office. I’ll enjoy the next fifty miles walking in style and staying safe, thanks to the HITT team.

Dennis Allio
Electrician, Rosendin Electric

During Construction Safety Week 2022, we wanted to reward our trades partners for an incredible commitment to safety on a large data center project, so the team raffled off 50 $300 Red Wing Boot vouchers. A Red Wing Boot truck came to the jobsite for the winners to redeem their vouchers, and every worker on-site received a discount for new boots!

The first word that comes to my mind when I think about HITT’s safety culture is teamwork. This is definitely the best work environment I have had in all of my health and safety experience. Seeing the commitment from each team member working towards the same mission makes me come to work every day with a big smile on my face.

Cristian Cruz
HITT Superintendent

We believe in the ability of each of our team members and trade partners to come together to share the responsibility for a safe and successful project. Together we can create workplaces where every individual can thrive.

As an outside safety consultant to HITT, I feel supported and empowered. The HITT team backs me up 100%. They understand that safety comes first and that everyone must communicate and work together to prevent incidents. HITT is always open to discussions that benefit the jobsite, and they have a tremendous safety program that any safety consultant would be lucky to learn from.

Rafael Cruz
Safety Consultant

HITT contracts industry-leading safety consultants to enhance our in-house team and bring new perspectives to our safety approach. The safety consultants operate as an extension of our safety team, working side by side with their HITT counterparts on our sites. Together, we bring innovative ideas to the table, identify opportunities for improvement, and continue to advance our health and safety culture.
