Overview
Microsoft, one of the world’s leading technology companies, relocated its Technology Center to 8000 Avalon Boulevard in Alpharetta. This 37,500-sf, Class A office space encompasses two floors with top tier finishes. Finishes included custom lighting packages with advanced controls, high-end millwork, custom solid wood trellis ceilings, custom steel-framed entry doors, and a skateboard ramp with wood base detail make this space unique.
The state-of-the-art envisioning center utilizes more than $1.5 million in stage, lighting, and audiovisual equipment for productions. The focal point is a curved wall clad in solid leather imported from Europe, making this the first product application in the U.S., and the first curved application in the world. Two motorized, modern-fold operable partitions (one glass modern-fold and other a Nanawall operable partition) are featured.
Other one-of-a-kind elements include a custom wood trellis barn door and a customer-facing data center with smoked glass and custom light fixtures.
The Technology Center’s intricate design was the primary challenge. The volume of different items, materials, subcontractors, and consultants required an exorbitant amount of coordination time. In addition, the base building provided logistical difficulties, as the team managed tight plenum conditions and robust lighting and HVAC packages. Throughout construction, HITT closely coordinated with numerous owner vendors and consultants to integrate their work into the construction sequence.
