HITT was responsible for the award-winning full renovation of an existing courtroom as part of the current modernization of the Fairfax County Courthouse complex. The scope of work required the complete demolition and abatement of existing finishes and systems to structure while salvaging certain components for reuse. The project required the installation of new MEP systems to include an extensive A/V and high-security package. The new courtroom consisted of finished cherry walls panels, new judges bench, jury seating area, podiums, furniture and viewing areas to match. In addition, walls and ceilings received acoustical wall treatments and granite base throughout. One major challenge was salvaging existing oak benches and refinishing to match the cherry. HITT relied on the expertise of our subcontractors and extensive planning and coordination with the project management team and designers. The project was completed in a fully functioning courthouse, which required HITT to maintain security and work around ongoing court and public access.
