GWU Hospital Radiation Oncology Center Wins ABC National EIC Award

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) recognized our work on the George Washington University Hospital Radiation Oncology Center with a National Excellence in Construction® Pyramid Award in the Healthcare category.

Requiring construction of two state-of-the-art linear accelerator vaults, a CT scanner room, patient exam rooms, as well as office and administrative space, the entire interior renovation was completed in an occupied building under a strict noise limit.

The project team, made up of top-notch talent from WJ Architects, engineering firms CCRD and Walter P Moore, UHS, and the GWU Hospital, successfully navigated a tight schedule and the challenges of building in an occupied space.

“From start to finish, HITT demonstrated a commitment to innovation and high quality construction in their work on the George Washington University Hospital Radiation Oncology Center, a commitment that is clearly evident in the finished product,” said 2016 ABC National Chair David Chapin.

The Excellence in Construction Awards program was developed to honor innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects and honors all construction team members. Winning projects were selected from a nationwide pool of entries and were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.  Entries were judged by a panel of industry, with representatives from the Design-Build Institute of America, Engineering News-Record, Construction Users Roundtable, the National Association of Women in Construction, among others.
