DeVry College of Nursing

Atlanta, GA

Completion of the new DeVry Chamberlain College of Nursing, one of the most widely known nursing schools in the nation, was the product of 21 subcontractors working together, coordinated in the field by two superintendents, to meet a 24-week schedule. The project was completed across spaces over four floors in two different buildings. The scope of work included demolition and interior renovation of four floors of office space in Sandy Springs, Georgia. In coordination with more than 19 trade contractors and equipment suppliers. HITT’s build back included classrooms, functional medical labs, science classrooms and office space for administration. All new ductwork was installed with new VAVs and controls. Research areas include fully equipped science labs providing students with comfortable learning environments and access to a variety of lab equipment including fume hoods, acid neutralization stations and testing areas. The bright and spacious classrooms located throughout the space provide plenty of room to attend class comfortably, organize presentation materials and study in a quiet environment. Several computer labs were constructed throughout the space, providing students with access to plenty of computers for research and composition purposes.

This specific project for DeVry Chamberlain College of Nursing instated various new and innovative design standards, as well as never-before-utilized equipment for DeVry. The space incorporates state-of-the-art nursing and healthcare simulation areas, along with technologically advanced educational, research and collaborative space. Specific areas for simulation purposes include the learning labs and SimCare Bay areas equipped with Amico Headwall units and Tower Consoles. The utilization of the Amico Tower Console is a first for both DeVry’s Nursing Schools as well as the manufacturer. Each SimCare Bay area is also equipped with independent monitors that simulate actual healthcare settings, allowing students to monitor vitals as they would in any state-of-the-art hospital room. The Sim-Lab area located on the second floor of the main DeVry space is a testing area of a fully functional hospital patient room and provides the faculty and staff with the ability to observe and record activities via use of a large, two-way mirror pane glass window and Horton sliding doors.
