HITT Contracting acknowledges that increased greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere cause climate change, and the main producers of these emissions are human-related activities such as the burning of fossil fuels. In response to numerous studies projecting major environmental and societal impacts due to global climate change, HITT has committed to understanding and reducing operational greenhouse gas emissions.
Carbon Neutral by 2023
HITT Contracting is committed to continually building upon our foundation of exceptional quality, service, and relationships. Sustaining this tradition requires a thoughtful balance between economic growth, environmental stewardship, an empowered workforce, and community involvement—compatible goals that drive long-term value for all stakeholders.
After better understanding our environmental impacts as it relates to carbon emissions, HITT has committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2023.
One of HITT’s five corporate responsibility pillars is environmental sustainability. HITT recognized that we must track and understand carbon emissions to fully realize our operational impact on the environment. In 2018, HITT baselined our carbon emissions by tracking Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions (excluding jobsites). In 2019, HITT disclosed emissions to CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project). Tracking and reporting carbon emissions have allowed HITT to better understand our impacts on the environment.
By 2023, HITT will transition from carbon reliant to carbon neutral operations, which currently can only be achieved through organizational carbon reductions and purchasing carbon offsets.
Carbon neutrality is not zero carbon. We realize that offsetting 100% of our emissions is a good start, but the true impact is in the reduction of emissions. As HITT continues to track Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions (excluding jobsites), HITT will thoughtfully identify and capitalize upon tangible opportunities in which the organization can further reduce emissions.
