HITT Contracting Breaks Ground at 680 Eye Street SW

Work begins on multi-family building and church facility across from The Wharf

HITT Contracting recently broke ground on PN Hoffman’s anticipated transformation of the Riverside Baptist Church at 680 Eye Street SW. Located at the corner of Seventh and Eye Streets SW, the site is directly across from The Wharf, a $2 billion, mile-long redevelopment of the Southwest Waterfront.

Prior to breaking ground, selective demolition was successfully completed, taking special care to preserve the existing stone façade and stained glass from the original Riverside Baptist Church. These elements will be incorporated into Riverside’s new facility, which is aiming for LEED Silver certification.

HITT demolished the existing structure to make way for a new Riverside Baptist Church facility that will accommodate the congregation’s growth, as well as a 10-story, 236,000-square-foot mixed-use building. The 680 Eye Street development will feature 173 high-end residential units and the new Riverside Baptist Church, in addition to neighborhood service and retail space. The new residential building, which features 7,900 square feet of green roof, is targeting LEED Gold certification.

The $50 million construction project is estimated to complete in late 2018.
