Reston is one of the great planned community success stories in Northern Virginia. Built and named for developer Robert E. Simon (R.E.S.-ton) in 1964, the area has grown to become a vibrant community, much of which revolves around the lively community at Reston Town Center. Though not part of the original vision for Reston, there is no denying that the Town Center has become its heart. With mixed-use buildings lining wide avenues, it attracts top tenants to Class A office space and residents to the high-end shopping and hip dining scene—and HITT has been there almost since the beginning.
In addition to numerous tenant interior projects, we’ve also had the good fortune to deliver six unique base building projects at the Town Center over the last 20 years. Along the way, we’ve developed a connection to the Reston community and formed strong bonds with clients that include Sallie Mae, College Board, Rolls Royce, and Leidos.
Those successes have helped us forge an important partnership with owner Boston Properties as well. “Boston Properties understands the construction industry and the challenges that we tackle as contractors,” explained Site Operations Vice President Dave Underwood. “They support us every step of the way, working hand-in-hand to ensure the success of the project.”
Our very first Town Center job was a five-level, cast-in-place concrete parking garage built in the late 1990s. Today, we race toward the completion of what will be our largest multifamily project in our portfolio: The Signature Apartments, a 22-story and 20 story pair of trophy towers on a shared garage on the last remaining open parcel of the Town Center.
“This place is booming,” continued Dave, who has managed more than 3.2 million square feet of work there, including the impressive South of Market development that included four office towers and two parking garages. “Reston Town Center has been a huge success for us,” shared Boston Properties’ Jon Kurtis. “There is no denying that what we’ve built together with HITT meets Mr. Simon’s vision of a place to live, work, and play.”
