Virginia Tech, a top-ranked ACC university for construction and engineering, has broken ground on the newest addition to its 2,600-acre Blacksburg campus, Hitt Hall. The state-of-the-art 100,000 sf facility will house the esteemed Myers-Lawson School of Construction, a two-story innovation lab, student dining, academic classrooms, and collaboration space. The building is named in recognition of the lead financial gift provided by the Hitt family, founders of top national commercial construction firm HITT Contracting. Hitt Hall will provide infrastructure to further position Virginia Tech as a leader in building industry research and education to prepare tomorrow’s construction innovators, a vision that HITT Contracting’s Chairman Emeritus Russell Hitt passionately believed in and a core value at HITT Contracting today.
“The HITT family has always cared deeply about philanthropic efforts and volunteerism, particularly with regards to construction education, technology, and community building,” stated Brett Hitt, Co-Chairman of HITT Contracting and Russell Hitt’s son. “My father’s giving spirit will live on through the students, professors, and community members who will benefit from this new addition to the Virginia Tech campus, as well as through HITT Contracting’s formal community enrichment programs and the newly formed HITT Contracting Foundation.”
The HITT Contracting Foundation, a nonprofit established by the company in 2021, was shaped by Russell Hitt’s generosity. Funded with a $10 million seed investment, the foundation’s mission is to improve the lives of HITT’s team members, partners, and subcontractors through investments in technology, education, relationships, and community.
