Virginia Department of Labor and Industry and HITT Contracting Partner for Registered Apprenticeship Program

Apprenticeship Sponsor Agreement Signed by the Principal Leadership Team of HITT Contracting, One of the Nation’s Largest General Contractors

At the culmination of Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin’s inaugural apprenticeship month, HITT Contracting, alongside Virginia’s Secretary of Labor Bryan Slater and DOLI Commissioner Gary G. Pan, signed a Registered Apprenticeship Program agreement, making HITT a key partner in providing job experience and technical education for a new generation of construction management professionals in the state of Virginia.

Through the agreement, the “earn while you learn” program will position apprentices for success by working directly for and with a top national contractor, focusing on innovation and smart solutions that will define what the construction industry will look like in the 21st century.

“Virginia is where it all started for us at HITT, and for more than 85 years we have been thankful to be a part of Virginia’s built environment. Participating in this critically important initiative is of course an honor,” states Kim Roy, CEO of HITT. “With DOLI, we are redefining pathways to career success, and are creating opportunities and valued professions in the Commonwealth. The Apprenticeship Program is one more great way our community is working to lift each other up.”

“Apprenticeships, and other work-based learning opportunities, are vital to preparing Virginians to fill current and future workforce needs,” states Bryan Slater. “We must reimagine how we do workforce development strategy in the Commonwealth, and apprenticeships provide a proven alternative pathway to high paying five and six-figure successful careers in the high-demand jobs of the future, with little or no student debt. We are excited to join HITT in this partnership and we appreciate the service they provide to the Commonwealth.”

The DOLI Registered Apprenticeship Program is an occupation-specific training model that combines on-the-job training and related technical instruction to provide a work-based, paid job experience. Apprentices are considered full-time employees and are taxpayers. The program has well-defined standards, where apprentices need to achieve a minimum of 2,000 hours of continuous employment and 144 hours per year of related instruction in order to complete the apprenticeship program.
